Assessment of Morbidity Patterns and Occupational Hazards Among Food Handlers in Food Establishments in Tamilnadu, India

Background: Rapid urbanization has increased the intake of external (outside) foods, causing a surge in food-borne diseases. In the South-East Asian region of the World Health Organization, 150 million people fall ill with foodborne diseases every year, of which, 1.75 lakhs perish. Occupational hazards are of public health importance as they cause permanent disability, loss of livelihood, and morbidity. Methodology:  This cross-sectional study was conducted among 235 food handlers working in food establishments of a private educational institution in Tamil Nadu using a semi-structured pre-tested questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, odds ratio and one-way ANOVA were used. Occupational risk score was calculated. Data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0. Results: The mean age of the food handlers was 30.7 (SD=10.3). Of the 235 participants, the majority were Males (86%). The commonest acute morbidity was Acid peptic disease (48.5%). Hypertension was reported in 26% of subjects. The most common occupational hazard was prickly heat (74.9% of the subjects). Work-related stress was reported by 72% of the food handlers. Physical hazards were high with a Mean value of 11.67 (SD=5.9) Conclusion: Half the subjects reported Acid Peptic Disease as the most common morbidity. Burns at work and psycho-social issues were found at higher rates. Periodic deworming, vaccination against enteric organisms, routine examinations and ergonomically designed workplaces can prevent outbreaks and preserve workers’ health.

Students’ Integrative and Instrumental Motivation for Learning English as a Second Language

Objective: This research investigates the influence of integrative and instrumental motivations on English Language Learning (ELL) among students in private educational institutions within the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It aims to discern which type of motivation—integrative or instrumental—exerts a greater impact on second language acquisition.   Method: A quantitative research methodology was employed, utilizing a 44-item questionnaire adapted from the Motivation Test Battery. The study sample consisted of 101 English as a Second Language (ESL) students. Statistical tools such as regression analysis and correlation coefficients were used to analyse the data, providing insights into the relationships between motivational types and language acquisition success.   Results and Discussion: The study revealed a positive correlation between both integrative and instrumental motivations and ELL. Notably, integrative motivation had a more substantial influence on the ESL outcomes compared to instrumental motivation. These results underline the complexity of motivational impacts on language learning, with integrative motivation playing a pivotal role.   Research Implications: The findings suggest that educational strategies that enhance integrative motivation could be more effective in promoting successful language learning. This could involve fostering a deeper connection with the language community and culture, thereby enriching the educational experience and outcomes for ESL learners.   Originality/Value: This study contributes to the existing body of knowledge by focusing on the comparative impacts of integrative and instrumental motivations in the context of the UAE—a region where such studies are seldom conducted. The insights regarding the predominant influence of integrative motivation add a valuable dimension to the global discourse on second language acquisition, especially in multilingual and multicultural learning environments.

Beyond Pedagogical Expertise: Best Practices of Classroom Advisers Toward an Effective Advising Framework

Teachers do not just teach as they also fill the role of being classroom advisers of their students. This study explores their best practices through their lived experiences in managing the students in terms of their academic responsibilities, behavior, and even personal problems. The study employed a qualitative research design specifically a phenomenological approach wherein the participants of the study were selected through homogeneous purposive sampling. A series of semi-structured interviews were conducted after that, the interviews were transcribed and analyzed. The researcher came up with six emergent themes: (1) Raison d’etre: Reason for Being; (2) Development through Challenges; (3) Secure Attachment; (4) Observance of In Loco Parentis; (5) Adaptive Strategies, and; (6) Evidence of Success. It was found that classroom advisers described their lived experiences as challenging yet fulfilling duties. The best practices of classroom advisers involve establishing a connection with the students, valuing individuality, having constant communication, providing guidance, practicing parenting roles, yearning for the success of the students, being proactive, observing inclusivity in the classroom, and setting boundaries. The evidence of the success of their best practices, as presented by participants, includes gaining the trust of their students through listening and sharing stories, receiving messages of appreciation, and seeing the students transform for the better. An Effective Advising Framework was proposed based on the findings of the study which could be helpful in the classroom advisers for both public and private educational institutions.

The role of change readiness in the relationship between learning organisation and successful change implementation

PurposeAlthough change is a necessary part of organisational life, achieving a successful change is complex. Change readiness is a critical element in successful change implementation, yet studies assessing change readiness as an underlying mechanism in the link between organisational-level factors and successful change implementation are scarce, particularly in the African context. Accordingly, the present study examined the extent to which change readiness mediates the link between learning organisation and successful change implementation in the Ghanaian context.Design/methodology/approachThe study utilized a standardized questionnaire to collect data from 364 participants, working in public and private universities in Ghana. The participants were selected via the convenience sampling strategy to complete the survey on the main variables at a single point in time. The study was purely quantitative, as path analysis – a form of structural equation modelling was employed to test the hypothesized relationships in the study.FindingsThe results show that both learning organisation and change readiness facilitated successful change implementation. Finally, it was observed that change readiness served as an important mediating mechanism in the link between learning organisation and successful change implementation.Practical implicationsChange readiness was found to explain the link between learning organisation and successful change implementation. Thus, it is important that managers and leaders of public and private sector educational institutions in Ghana invest resources into preparing and getting employees to accept, be committed to and ready for change.Originality/valueThe present study contributes to the scarce knowledge of the mediating role of change readiness in the link between learning organisation and successful change implementation in the African context.

Personality traits and job performance among academic staff in a private academic institution

<span lang="EN-US">This study investigates the association between the personality traits of academic staff members and their job performance in a Malaysian private educational institution. The personality traits were based on the Big Five model, which has five dimensions: openness to experience, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism. About 110 participants from this institution were surveyed using a quantitative questionnaire, and their data were gathered. Throughout the study, the data were examined utilizing multiple regression analysis and factor analysis. According to the study’s findings, conscientiousness, and openness to experience significantly positively affect job performance. However, it was determined that extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism were not statistically significant and had no connection to job performance. As a result, in this institution, openness to experience is the most essential predictor of job performance. The findings of this study showed the management that openness to experience and conscientiousness are crucial for improving job performance inside the institution. Therefore, the management should pay more attention to these areas and recruit new employees with openness to experience and conscientious personality traits.</span>

Comprehensive industry review of Kazakhstan higher education market: trends and challenges

Higher education in Kazakhstan occupies a central place in the process of socio-economic progress of the country. In recent decades, Kazakhstan's higher education market has undergone significant changes. The rapid development of technology, integration into the global educational space and changes in the economic and social spheres have led to a revision of the needs and expectations of higher education. The article presents an analysis of the higher education system of the Republic of Kazakhstan with an emphasis on highlighting key trends and challenges. The main focus of the research is aimed at studying the dynamically developing and highly competitive higher education market, in which both public and private educational institutions are actively functioning. The main purpose of this study is to provide detailed coverage of the current conditions and trends in the higher education market in Kazakhstan. To achieve this goal, various methods were used, including content analysis, a desk method of data collection, comparison and generalization. The analysis was based on secondary data: a review of current sources and scientific publications over the past five years from international and local databases, statistical data and analytical reports. The results of this study provide an objective view of the current state, structure, participants and directions of development of the higher education market in Kazakhstan in the period 2017–2022. The study highlights the importance of regional development issues, ensuring broad accessibility of higher education, active integration of the latest technologies and teaching methodologies, as well as the formation of a comprehensive and inclusive educational space.

INSTITUTIONAL TRANSFORMATIONS IN THE DIRECTION OF INCREASING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE STATE POLICY OF CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE PROTECTION

The article analyzes modern features of state policy in the field of critical infrastructure protection. Attention is focused on the need for institutional transformations in the direction of improving efficiency, transparency, responsibility and responding to new security challenges in the conditions of a hybrid war with the Russian Federation.
 The practice of protecting critical infrastructure facilities in developed countries has been studied. It was determined that its priority is the actualization of the predicate of stability of critical infrastructure objects. The content of normative and legal acts of Ukraine in this area was analyzed. A number of provisions have been identified that allow the adjustment of the domestic security doctrine to the European vector of stability.
 Within the perspective of the development of the concept of sustainability, the intention of «critical infrastructure stakeholders» is substantiated. This opens up the prospects of creating transparent conditions for ensuring the annihilation of state institutions of power, state protection systems, the private sector, educational and scientific institutions and other stakeholders of critical infrastructure to the National System of Critical Infrastructure Protection at the next levels of management. The possible levels of such cooperation are determined.
 Modern scientific works were analyzed, which studied the prospects of changing the paradigm of protection and stability to the paradigm of resilience. The complex of institutional transformations is proposed to be expanded due to the application within the framework of the functioning of the National Critical Infrastructure Protection System of the process of determining and analyzing the range of risks that the country faces in the spheres of critical infrastructure functioning. The transformation of institutional protection systems is considered through the prism of systemic determinants, among which physical protection and defense, cyber protection and defense, preventive measures of protection and defense, and an educational and scientific approach are highlighted.
 The system of organization at the state level of conducting regular interdisciplinary trainings on the operational response to emergency situations at facilities has been studied. It is proposed to increase clarity in the delineation of responsibility for project threats and to strengthen control over compliance with the systematicity of interdisciplinary training. On the basis of the extrapolations of scientists' hypotheses and the results of the author's research, a proposal was made to systematize the main proposals for institutional transformations in the direction of increasing the effectiveness of the state policy for the protection of critical infrastructure in the form of a Preventive concept of resilience of critical infrastructure objects.

A Path Model of Psychological Well-Being of Teachers During the Covid–19 Pandemic: A Positivist and Constructivist Viewpoint

The study determined the influence of burnout, self-awareness, and work engagement on teachers' psychological well-being. Moreover, it aimed to find the best-fit model to explain teachers' psychological well-being. A total of 300 College teachers in private education institutions participated in the study and were selected using the purposive sampling technique. Sets of adopted survey questionnaires were utilized in obtaining data from the respondents. The mean and standard deviation, Pearson r correlation, multiple regression analysis, and structural equation modeling were utilized as statistical tools in the study. The results revealed that the degree of burnout, level of self-awareness, and level of psychological well-being of teachers were moderate. On the other hand, the teachers had a high level of work engagement. Moreover, there was a directly proportional relationship between self-awareness and psychological well-being, and work engagement and psychological well-being. However, an inverse relationship was observable between burnout and teachers' psychological well-being. Further, burnout, self-awareness, and work engagement significantly predicted teachers' psychological well-being. Furthermore, the hypothesized model showed that both burnout and work engagement, directly and indirectly, affected teachers' psychological well-being through self-awareness acting as a mediator. Hence, the hypothesized model was a good fit for explaining teachers' psychological well-being.

Interplay of Socio-Communal Dynamics and Political Influences: Shaping Higher Education Policy in Kerala

This paper provides a comprehensive analysis of Kerala's education sector, focusing on its achievements, challenges, and the intricate nexus of politics. Kerala is renowned for its advanced education system, high literacy rates and nearly universal primary education. However, disparities persist in higher education, exacerbated by politicization and issues related to social justice. The political landscape in Kerala is deeply intertwined with its education sector, with caste and communal factors influencing governance and policy decisions. The emergence of influential middle-class groups and communal organizations has led to challenges like corruption and nepotism in private educational institutions. Campus politics further exacerbates these issues, limiting academic freedom and governance. Despite advocacy for social justice in higher education policy, disparities among vulnerable groups persist. Addressing these challenges requires collaborative efforts from policymakers, educational institutions, and civil society. Strengthening governance mechanisms, promoting inclusivity, and fostering academic freedom are essential for achieving a more equitable education system in Kerala.

‘I came to the Basque Country, and now I have to learn their language’. Migrant students’ attitudes towards the use of a minority language

ABSTRACT This study analyzes the attitudes of migrant children towards the Basque language within the context of varying linguistic models and the dichotomy between public and private educational institutions. Engaging 145 migrant children aged 12–16; the research utilised open-ended questions analyzed via Iramuteq software to discern patterns in language perception. The analysis concludes that participants in model A or those attending private schools perceive Basque as a challenging aspect of their education. In contrast, students in model B regard it as just another language subject, while those in model D appreciate its community-binding significance, acknowledging its role in social integration. Students from public schools, which exhibit a higher prevalence of Basque than private religious institutions, recognised its instrumental value. The study emphasises the necessity of fostering positive attitudes towards minority languages like Basque, highlighting the importance of approaches based on the educational setting and linguistic framework. It also alerts to the ongoing risk of ghettoisation, stressing the imperative for meticulously devised and executed educational policies to foster inclusivity and prevent segregation. Additionally, there is a warning against the processes of ghettoisation that is currently taking place, highlighting the need for careful planning and implementation of such educational strategies.

Knowledge and precautions of light-curing composite resin restorations by dental students

Composite resin is versatile material for performing several dental procedures in dentistry, and its use has already been consolidated in this field. The clinical success of adhesive restorations is directly related to the knowledge of restorative material properties and light-curing unit factors, among others. The aim of the study was to assess the knowledge about the technical characteristics of light-curing devices and the forms of use and maintenance employed by undergraduate dental students. A total of 230 students answered a questionnaire containing six questions on technical data, use, and maintenance of light-curing units. Of the total number of participants, the majority were students from private educational institutions attending the last two years. With 59.1% of them unaware of the ideal irradiance of a light-curing unit, 73.0% were careful to position the light-curing unit as close as possible to the restoration, and 42.6% followed the light-curing time recommended by textbooks and theoretical texts. As for use and maintenance, 50.4% used the protector attached to the light-curing unit, 57.4% used safety barriers, and 63.0% sanitized the light tip after use. The evaluation suggests that student’s knowledge of “light-curing resin materials” is incomplete. Therefore, it can be inferred that the students have a good understanding of biosafety precautions when using light-curing units, but more knowledge is needed about the technical and clinical aspects of the devices.

Implementation of project-based learning in assessing the creativity abilities of prospective biology teachers

Developing the 21st century abilities is a challenge for educational institutions, especially when it comes to learning that encourages students to be creative. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the creative capacities of prospective biology teacher students by implementing Project-Based Learning (PjBL) in nutrition science subjects. Performance observation sheets and portfolios were employed in this study, which involved 40 students of biology education at a private educational institution in Bandung. This study used an experimental class by first determining the criteria for the percentage of at least 70%. The results of the study show that the percentage with an average value of 51.80% is included in the sufficient category but is still below the specified average standard. The novelty indicator is 50.65% in the sufficient category the useful indicator is 39.53%, the effect on others is 22.30% and the ability to generalize is 31.53% which is still in the less category. Based on this, overall student creativity after the implementation of PjBL learning in the Nutrition Science course still needs to be improved. Findings of learning using PjBL are able to positively correlate with increasing student learning motivation and independence.

Academic managers’ roles and challenges in migrating to interim online teaching: a higher education context

ABSTRACT Despite the important roles that academic managers play and the growing body of literature on online learning, research on the organisational level, such as management, remains underexplored, particularly within the context of interim online teaching. Therefore, our study aimed to fill this gap by examining academic managers’ key roles and the challenges they experienced in migrating to interim online teaching. This case study involved eight academic managers from private and public higher education institutions in the Philippines, who were selected through purposive sampling. Using semi-structured interviews, the findings indicated that their roles and challenges across the six leadership functions intensified and expanded during the transition to interim online teaching. It is further revealed that these challenges and roles were shaped not only by individual and institutional factors, such as university culture and structure, technological resources, and institutional policies, but also by larger contextual factors, such as national policies, economic conditions, and the country's technological readiness. Implications for management development, policy-making, and future research are discussed.

РОЛЬ СОЦІАЛЬНОЇ ПОЛІТИКИ НА МОЛОДІЖНОМУ РИНКУ ПРАЦІ В АЗЕРБАЙДЖАНІ

The purpose of the article is to study the impact of social policy on the youth labor market in Azerbaijan, paying special attention to identifying effective strategies and measures that can increase the integration of young people into the labor force. The study aims to analyze the challenges young people face in finding employment, and how various government initiatives, educational reforms and legislative measures can help create a more inclusive and vibrant labor market for young people. During the study, the following methods were chosen as the main research methods: historicity, scientific validity, objective and critical attitude to historical processes, their comparative analysis Novelty: for the first time, an objective attitude towards employment-oriented processes of youth socialization has been identified, the definition of effective strategies for increasing youth employment and their integration into the labor market, contributing to the socio-economic development of Azerbaijan. The study highlights government efforts to improve youth employability through educational reforms, job training, employment incentives and support programs. These initiatives aim to provide young Azerbaijanis with the necessary skills, knowledge and opportunities to succeed in a competitive and globalized job market. The study highlights the various efforts undertaken by the Azerbaijani government through education reforms, vocational training, employment promotion and legislative measures to integrate youth into a dynamic and developing labor market. These initiatives are comprehensive and target both demand and labor market aspects to equip young people with the necessary skills, opportunities and protection. It is noted that the role of social policy in the youth labor market is not only to solve pressing employment problems, but also to invest in the future of the country. Developing a well-integrated, skilled and motivated young workforce is essential to Azerbaijan's pursuit of economic diversification and sustainable development. This requires a joint effort between government, the private sector, educational institutions and civil society.

Knowledge and practice towards intravenous fluid therapy in children among nurses in the pediatrics emergency department of selected public hospitals

Morbidity and mortality in hospitalized patients can be increased due to errors that are caused by inadequate knowledge and unsatisfactory practice of intravenous (IV) fluid therapy among healthcare workers. The knowledge and practice of nurses are very critical to IV fluid therapy because they are the cornerstone of a subject. This study assessed nurse's knowledge and practice of IV fluid therapy. A cross-sectional study design was employed at four selected public hospitals in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Data were collected from 112 nurses using a structured questionnaire for knowledge and using an observational checklist for practice. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 26 computer programs. Most respondents (67%) were males; the mean age of respondents was 31.2 ± 4.3. Among participated nurses, 42% (95% CI 32.8, 51.2) and 56.3% (95% CI 47.1, 65.6) had inadequate knowledge and satisfactory practice regarding IV fluid therapy in children, respectively. A significant association was observed between nurses' intravenous fluid therapy knowledge and in-service training that nurses who had training on fluid therapy in children had 4 times adequate knowledge than those who had no training (P = 0.01), an educational qualification that master degree holders had 4.8 times adequate knowledge than first-degree holders (P = 0.04) and training institution that nurse who had taken training in governmental teaching institution had 4 times adequate knowledge than who had taken training in private teaching institution (P = 0.011). No statistically significant association was found between practice level and independent variables regarding IV fluid therapy. Nurses’ knowledge of IV fluid therapy was inadequate and practice was relatively satisfactory. Continuous education and training of nurses on IV fluid therapy should be conducted regularly to improve their knowledge and practice. Further research should be employed involving other hospitals and focusing on risk factors for knowledge and practice inadequacy that are not discussed in this study.

In this study, we will try to make an Android-based Jersey Shirt Sales System Application that is addressed at the Berugak Jersey Lombok Store. The Berugak Jersey Lombok shop only uses social media and manuals in marketing its products. So, most of the consumers/customers come from the people around them and the social media they use. Currently, a business field is certainly less competitive if it does not have online marketing media such as e-commerce applications/websites. The existence of an application/website will be able to expand the reach in marketing the products sold at this store. The method used in the design and manufacture of this software is the waterfall method. The purpose of this final project research is to produce a sales system application design that can make it easier for consumers to place orders/transactions at the Berugak Jersey Lombok store and as a means to promote products to be more communicative and informative, to expand the marketing area and increase the number of consumers

STUDY ON FACULTY TURNOVER IN YUNNAN COLLEGE OF BUSINESS MANAGEMENT

Private educational institutions in China have a relatively short history of development, and the main force of the faculty is junior faculty. In recent years, Yunnan College of Business Management has developed rapidly, but the problem of junior faculty turnover has become an important factor that limits its long-term development. Based on the case study of Yunnan College of Business Management, this article analyzes the main reasons for the faculty turnover in private colleges and universities, focusing on the needs of junior faculty in terms of further training, salary, social security identity and sense of belonging, and proposes corresponding countermeasures for stabilizing the teaching workforce and promoting the sustainable development of private colleges and universities. It is also suggested for the sustainable development of private colleges and universities.

Factors Affecting E-Learning Performance in Private Higher Education Institutions: An Empirical Analysis

This research investigates the determinants of e-learning performance in private educational institutions in the Sindh region. Employing a quantitative methodology, the study utilized a closed-ended questionnaire for data collection. The survey was conducted at five private universities in Sindh with a focus on their experiences with e-learning implementation in traditional classrooms. A total of 250 questionnaires were collected, out of which 233 underwent thorough examination. Structural equation modeling, specifically Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), was employed to analyze the proposed conceptual model, using variance as a basis for assessment. The study reveals that the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) constructs related to effort expectancy exert a significant and positive influence on student behavior. Conversely, the performance expectancy variable does not exhibit a statistically significant impact on student e-learning performance. Furthermore, student performance is directly affected by other factors, such as organizational structure and extrinsic motivation. In contrast, concerning student behavior, extrinsic motivation emerges as the sole influential factor. The study's findings suggest that elements shaping behavior, including organizational structure, extrinsic motivation, and effort expectancy, play pivotal roles in enhancing student e-learning performance.

INVESTIGATION OF CAREGIVER BURDEN AND OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY INTERVENTION IN DISABLED INDIVIDUALS IN COVID 19 TERM

Objective It was conducted to determine the factors affecting the occupational therapy training and the care burden of parents in individuals who were to learn in the Covid 19. Methods: The study sample consisted of individuals whose average age was 23.27 ±311.77 years in a private education institution in Ankara. Caregiver burden of parents was evaluated with Zarit Caregiver Scale (ZCS). Activity performance and satisfaction levels of the individuals were evaluated with the Canadian Activity Performance Measurement (COPM). The intervention was applied for 12 weeks. Results It was determined that 44.4 % of the caregivers had a moderate care burden. A statistically significant difference was obtained when comparing the ZCB before and after COVID-19 (p=0.006). A statistically significant decrease was found in the number of activities during the COVID 19 period (p=0.000, t=4.89). Conclusions: Occupational therapy intervention resulted in improvement in the activity performance of individuals. It is necessary to plan more studies that include evaluation and intervention approaches in the fields of activity performance and satisfaction in the field of occupational therapy.

Masalah Pembiayaan Pendidikan di Indonesia: Kenaikan Biaya Pendidikan

The cost of education is becoming increasingly expensive. According to an article quoted by detikedu citing BPS statistics, the cost of education rises by 10% to 15% each year. It should be realized that unequal education as a result of the high cost of education will affect all elements of social life. Education is not only expensive in public and private schools or educational institutions. This research uses a literature research approach. The literature search used keywords such as "education financing problems in Indonesia", "rising education costs", "high education costs", and other keyword combinations relevant to the topic. Education financing consists of investment costs, operating costs and personal costs. One of the most important aspects of achieving optimal educational goals is managing expenditure appropriately in accordance with the necessary financing needs. It is a sad reality that, due to lack of resources, disadvantaged children will continue to drop out of primary, junior secondary and senior secondary school, and will never have the opportunity to go to university. Some factors that contribute to the rising cost of education include: 1) Ineffective and inefficient school financing budgets, 2) Lack of democratization and transparency in school management, 3) Weak supervision and control of school fees by the government, 4) Lack of teacher welfare.
